story behind raksha bandhan
We all celebrate the festival rakshabandhan very happily and joyfully but did we actually know about the rakshabandhan facts and their reality.
Also that’s not true that only sisters tie to brother there is also that mother also ties to rakhi to his son when there is no sister or sister is absent. The wife is also tied to his husband. And how the rakhi is celebrated in different ways.
The Mythology about Rakshabandhan among Hindus is that the rakshabandhan festival starts from the Mahabharata. From one battle of the Mahabharata Krishna are injured during using their main weapon sudarshan and they are bleeding in their hand when draupadi sees this then she tore the hem of his sari and stopped Krishna from bleeding. And after some time kaurauo are undressing draupadi and Pandavas can’t do anything then lord Krishna helps them by giving her saree at that time and they unlock the same hem of her saree.
That’s how brother and sister helped eachother. And that time we all celebrate the rakshabandhan as from an ancient story. There is also a story that Lord Vishnu considered Parvati as his sister and in his marriage with Shiva, he performed all the duties as a brother.
A story comes from history- When Alexander had set out to conquer the world, his wife tied a thread on the wrist of Hindu king Puru and made him her brother and took a promise from him not to kill Alexander and King Puru also kept his promise and gave life to Alexander.Similarly, there is another popular story according to which when the widowed queen of Mewar, Karmavati, got the information about Bahadur Shah’s attack, she got scared and she sent a Rakhi to Mughal king Humayun and pleaded for protection. Humayun also kept his promise and fought a war with Bahadur Shah and protected his kingdom.
So that’s the importance of this beautiful festival rakshabandhan. In any condition the brother helps her sister and the sister help her sister and love each unconditionally. And when the brother gives a promise to her sister then he definitely does that. That’s the power of the relation between the brother and sister. And that’s the power of the rakhi.
